How to Measure, Cut, and Install Your Shelf Liner in Under 10 Minutes

RAY STAR liners are non-adhesive and cut-to-fit, installing one doesn't involve glue, transfer tape, or a trip to the hardware store.

📏Tape Measure
✂️Scissors
🧽Damp Cloth
🧻Shelf Liner Roll
~1 min

Clear and wipe the shelf

Take everything off the shelf and wipe down the surface with a damp cloth. Let it dry fully — laying liner over dust or moisture is the most common reason it looks uneven later.

~2 min

Measure the space

Measure the length and width of the shelf, drawer, or rack.

~1 min

Add a little extra

Add about half an inch to each dimension before cutting. It's much easier to trim off a small excess than to come up short and have to start over with a fresh piece.

~2 min

Cut with scissors

RAY STAR liner is soft enough to cut with a regular pair of household scissors. Cut on a flat surface, like a table or the floor, for a straighter edge than cutting it while it's rolled up.

~2 min

Lay it flat

Unroll the liner onto the shelf and let it sit for a few minutes — liners that have been rolled up tend to curl slightly at first, and most of that flattens out on its own.

~1 min

Trim the edges

Once it's flat, trim any excess along the edges, corners, or around obstacles like a drawer track or a shelf support bracket. Because there's no adhesive, small mistakes here are easy to fix — just lift a section and re-cut.

🔁Removing or Replacing a Liner

Because RAY STAR liners aren't adhesive, taking one out is just as fast as putting it in — lift it off, wipe the shelf, and either reposition the same piece or swap in a new design. There's no scraping, no sticky residue, and no risk of pulling up paint or veneer underneath.
